The Chechen Republic (Nochchin Republic, Nokhchicho) is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation, a republic in its composition; is located in the eastern part of the North Caucasus (North-Eastern Caucasus). The area is 15,647 km2 (according to other data about 17,300 km2 [~ 1]), from north to south extends approximately 170 km, from west to east — about 100 km. It borders with the following subjects of the Russian Federation: in the west — with Ingushetia (the border is not exactly defined, after the division of the Chechen Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1992, the parties postponed the decision of the issue for the future), in the northwest — with North Ossetia and Stavropol Territory, in the northeast, east and in the south-east — with Dagestan; in the south-west of the CR borders with an independent state — Georgia.
The population of more than 1.4 million people, the capital — Grozny (more than 290 thousand people). State languages: Chechen and Russian. The time zone of the MSC, the offset relative to UTC is +3: 00. It is part of the North Caucasus Federal District and is part of the North Caucasus Economic Region. It is divided into 17 municipal districts (2 of them are formally recreated but not actually organized) and 2 urban districts. Head of the Republic RA Kadyrov (since 2007), Chairman of the Government R.S.-Kh. Edelgeriev (since 2012), Chairman of the Parliament M. Kh. Daudov (since 2015).
Local authorities created the Chechen Republic on November 1, 1991, in 1992 they refused to sign the Federative Treaty with the Russian Federation. Officially, according to the changes in the Constitution of the RSFSR of 1978, the republic within the Russian Federation was formed on December 10, 1992. After the military operations in the Chechen Republic, a referendum was held, on which, on March 23, 2003, the population voted for being in the Russian Federation by a majority.
