The area of ​​the region — the sixth of the seven regions of the North-West Federal District — is 55.3 thousand km ². The length of the territory of the region from west to east is 385 km, and from north to south — 278 km. The Novgorod region borders on the Pskov region in the west and south-west, with the Tver region in the south and southeast, with the Leningrad region in the north and the north-west and the Vologda region in the north-east.
