Unexpected final of “Dakar”: KAMAZ – the first, MAZ – the second In the Argentine city of Cordoba finished the jubilee (fortieth in count) rally-marathon # Dakar2018. The final of “Dakar” turned out to be extremely dramatic. Before the two final stages, the gap between the rider of the team # KAMAZMaster Eduard Nikolayev and Federico Villagra, speaking on the hood Iveco Dutch team De Rooy, was one second! But the penultimate day was generous to breakage. First Villagra broke through a wheel, the replacement of which was given to the crew very hard, and then the “gearbox” ended in the truck … As a result, the Argentine did not get to his native Córdoba. The victory after the marathon was celebrated by Eduard Nikolaev. Although this could not happen – on the penultimate segment of the race # KAMAZ leader remained without a clutch! However, Nikolayev managed to finish off to the finish line. On the second place after the departure of Villagry the crew of Sergey Vyazovich from the Belarusian team MAZ-SportAvto rose. Kamazovets Ayrat Mardeev was third, and the Kazakh Arthur Ardavichus on Iveco finished fourth. In the car classification, the final segments of the marathon were also given to the racers uneasy. The day before the finish, Stefan Peeteransel of Peugeot Sport, who occupied the second position, touched the wheel with a tree, and the long repair threw the 12-time winner of “Dakar” to the fourth position … However, losing the “silver”, Peugeot Sport stable managed not to miss the “gold” the champion of this year was Carlos Sainz. The second and third place – for pickups Toyota Hilux Nasser Al Attiyah and Giniel de Villiers, respectively. And what about the Russian quadrocyclist Sergei Karyakin? Last year the Ural racer unexpectedly won for many “Dakar”. However, to repeat last year’s success was not possible: the incumbent champion of the marathon in the fifth stage received fractures of both hands. It is clear that the Russian could not continue the race. Now the Russian is to be rehabilitated. In the absence of a strong competitor, the victory was expected by the Chilean Ignacio Casale. Also note that Dmitry Shilov from Kazakhstan finished the race sixth.
