The Sakhalin Region is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation.
The region is located in the Asia-Pacific region, it is one of the most eastern territories of Russia and the only region completely located on the islands (Sakhalin island and the Kuril Islands). It is part of the Far Eastern Federal District.
The administrative center is Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
It borders on the sea with the Kamchatka Krai, the Khabarovsk Territory and Japan. The parts of the Kuril Islands are partially challenged by Japan.
The Sakhalin Region is one of the leaders in Russia for oil and gas production, as well as fish and seafood catch.
