The Kurgan region is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation, located in the southern part of the West Siberian Plain. It is part of the Urals Federal District. The territory is 71 488 km ², which is 0.42% of the area of Russia. According to this indicator, the region occupies the 46th place in the country. From west to east the region stretches for 430 km, and the largest extent from north to south is 290 km.
