The Kaliningrad Region is the subject of the Russian Federation, the westernmost region of the country.
It is located in Central Europe. In the south it borders on Poland, in the north and east – on Lithuania (see the border of the Kaliningrad region). In the west it is washed by the Baltic Sea and its bays – the Curonian and Vistula. The area is 15,125 km² (13,3 thousand km², less the area of the bays).
After the collapse of the USSR is an exclave of Russia, since it does not have a common land border with the main territory of the country, but is connected to it by sea  . It is part of the North-West Federal District and the Kaliningrad Economic Region. Within the region is the extreme western point of Russia.
